When can I shower and wash my hair after an eye injection?

Showering is not restricted after an intravitreal injection. The ASRS says there are usually no restrictions following the injection apart from avoiding potential contamination of the eye on the day of the injection, and the NEI says most people return to normal activities right away.

The point of care is what goes into the eye, not whether you get wet. Tap water, shampoo and soap are not sterile. On injection day, keep your eyes closed under the spray, tip your head back rather than forward when you rinse your hair, and pat your face dry instead of scrubbing it.

Avoid rubbing the treated eye with a washcloth or your hands while the surface is still irritated. If soap does get in, rinse gently with sterile artificial tears rather than rubbing, and mention it at your next visit if the eye stays irritated.
