When can I wear eye makeup after an eye injection?

Short answer
Skip eye makeup on injection day, then most people go back to it the next day. Makeup near the lashes is a contamination route the ASRS tells you to avoid that day.
Mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow sit right at the lid margin, and old makeup carries bacteria. Since the ASRS says to avoid potential contamination of the eye on the day of the injection, eye makeup is best left off until the following day.
Face makeup away from the eyes is not a problem. It is the products at the lash line and inside the lid that matter, along with the removal, since taking eye makeup off means rubbing the very eye you are supposed to leave alone.
When you go back to it, use fresh or recently opened products rather than the tube that has been in a drawer for a year, apply with clean hands, and remove gently without pressing on the eye. If you get frequent injections, replacing eye makeup more often than usual is a reasonable habit.
| When | Typical guidance |
|---|---|
| Injection day | No eye makeup. Face makeup away from the eyes is fine. |
| Day 1 onward | Most people resume eye makeup, using clean products and removing it gently. |
